In a move to facilitate the timely settlement of claims across multiple locations, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced an arrangement where 19 regional offices are linked to 36 collaborating regional offices. This initiative aims to streamline the claim settlement process within the prescribed time limits.

According to a circular dated May 8, 2024, the EPFO has implemented this change after discussions and deliberations during a zonal review conference chaired by the Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC). The circular highlights the need to address the periodicity in claim settlement across offices nationwide.

The multi-location claim settlement arrangement was initially launched in June 2020 to enable online claim settlement from any regional office. Previously, the pension body followed a system where claims raised in one jurisdiction could be settled by the corresponding regional office only.

Under the new arrangement, 19 regional offices have been designated as Delegating Regional Offices (DROs), while 36 offices have been assigned as Collaborating Regional Offices (CROs). The circular lists the specific DROs and their respective CROs, such as Bengaluru (KR Puram-Whitefield) collaborating with Tirunelveli, Trichy, and Hubli, among others.

The circular emphasizes that the effective functioning of the link arrangement between DROs and CROs will be the responsibility of the Regional Provident Fund Commissioners (RPFCs) in charge of both offices. They are expected to work in close coordination to ensure the desired results in claim settlement periodicity are achieved without any issues.

Furthermore, the circular states that it will be the responsibility of the DRO to ensure that the establishments mapped with the CRO have clean member and establishment data, without any legacy issues such as pending reconciliation or cases of short balances, to avoid erroneous payments.

This multi-location claim settlement initiative by the EPFO aims to streamline the claim settlement process across the country, ensuring faster and more efficient service delivery to its subscribers.
