Equity Mutual Funds inflows grew 14% month on month in December 2024

December 2024 marked a significant milestone in the mutual fund industry, with equity mutual funds witnessing substantial growth compared to the previous month. According to the latest data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), the sector demonstrated robust performance across various categories.
The equity mutual funds recorded an impressive inflow of Rs41,155 crore in December 2024, showing a notable increase of 14.49% from November 2024 figure of Rs35,943.4 crore. This growth reflects strong investor confidence in the equity market segment.
Category-wise Performance Analysis
- Mid-cap funds maintained steady growth with inflows of Rs5,093 crore, representing a 4% increase from November 2024.
- Small-cap funds showed stronger momentum with inflows reaching Rs4,667 crore, up by 13.5% from November 2024 Rs4,111 crore.
- Large-cap funds experienced a decline, with inflows decreasing by 21% to Rs2,010 crore from November 2024 Rs2,547 crore.
- Flexi-cap funds saw a moderate decrease of 7%, recording inflows of Rs4,730 crore.
- Multi-cap schemes registered inflows of Rs3,075.11 crore, marking a 15% reduction from November 2024.
- The most remarkable performance came from sectoral/thematic funds, which witnessed a dramatic 100% increase, reaching Rs15,331 crore in December 2024.
December was particularly active in terms of new fund offerings, with 33 new open-ended schemes and one close-ended fund. The launches covered a diverse range of categories, including 12 sectoral/thematic funds, 12 index funds, two ETFs, one multi-cap fund, two multi-asset allocation funds, one arbitrage fund, and one children's fund. This comprehensive growth and diverse fund launch pattern indicates a maturing mutual fund market with increasing investor participation across various investment categories. The significant increase in sectoral/thematic funds particularly suggests growing investor interest in specialized market segments.
