Pensioners are required to submit their Life Certificates, known as Jeevan Pramaan Patra, every year to ensure continuation of pension disbursement. A special provision allows super senior pensioners, those aged 80 and above, to begin submitting their Life Certificates in October, starting from October 1. Those below 80 must provide their Life Certificates in November. A pensioner can either submit the certificate physically, by visiting banks, post offices, or online.
The Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DoPPW) has released an order on 25 September 2023 urging all banks to create awareness through various platfomrs about the convenience of obtaining a Life Certificate using face authentication technology. This initiative aims to simplify the process for pensioners and streamline the verification process.
Here's how super senior pensioners can submit their Life Certificates using face authentication:
1. Download the latest version of the 'Aadhaar Face RD (Early Access) Application' from the Google Play Store.
2. Download the 'Jeevan Pramaan' app.
3. Fill in personal details such as Aadhaar number, mobile number, and email ID on the Jeevan Pramaan app.
4. After filling in the required information, click on 'Submit.'
5. You will receive a one-time password (OTP) on your mobile number and email ID.
6. Enter the OTP.
7. Provide the name on your Aadhaar card and grant permission for a face scan when prompted.
8. Once the scan is complete, the app will display a confirmation along with your Pramaan ID and PPO number.
It's important to note that all pensioners, regardless of age, must submit a Life Certificate annually to continue receiving their pensions. There are approximately 69.76 lakh central government pensioners in India.

To promote the use of Digital Life Certificates and face authentication technology, the DoPPW has launched a nationwide campaign scheduled from 1 November 2023 to 30 November 2023. This campaign aims to educate central government pensioners and pension disbursing authorities across 100 cities, with a target of reaching 50 lakh pensioners. Detailed guidelines have been issued to ensure the success of the campaign and maximize its outreach, especially to super senior, sick, and incapacitated pensioners in remote areas.
This initiative reflects the government's commitment to simplifying pension processes and leveraging technology to benefit retirees.
